Tribe baseball played the first series of our CAA schedule this weekend against the University of Delaware, and we can only hope that all our series are as exciting as this one! After dropping the first game of the 3-game series by a score of 12-9 Saturday afternoon, we had a thrilling 12-inning victory Saturday evening! Down 4-3 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Tribe tied the game when star first baseman Tadd Bower mashed a double off of the top of the wall, which scored Ryan Brown. The score remained knotted at 4-4 until the bottom of the 12th, when Jonathan Slattery hit a walk-off single to right field to score Stephen Arcure from second base and seal the 5-4 victory for the Tribe! The star on the other side of the ball was Matt Davenport, who pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to seal the victory for the Green and Gold.
Today, the Tribe again entered a close contest in the late innings. After a solid outing from starter Brett Goodloe and some sensational relief from John Farrell, the Tribe was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning. Sure enough, another Tribe hitter came through in the clutch to secure the victory! This time, it was center fielder Ryan Brown, who sent a single just outside of the diving reach of the Delaware right fielder to score Jonathan Slattery for another thrilling Tribe win!
In case you missed it, that was two consecutive walk-off wins for this Tribe team against a very competitive Delaware squad. If you have not been out to Plumeri Park yet to see this team, you need to head on out because this team is for real! Unfortunately, they are on the road for the next few weeks, but the next home series is April 16-18 against ODU. You will be hearing a lot more about this series when it gets closer, but for now, we at Tribal Fever hope to see you all there! GO TRIBE!
